For the Love of Film: A Circle of Friends who Love Film

Welcome to our circle!  This month our challenge was to use Acros 100 film in medium format with day or window light.  I took the daylight option, my Holga 120n, and sought out abandoned scenes and distinct signs of the South for two personal projects.  Some that caught my eye…

I did try the film in 35mm format at box speed with my boys on a particularly sunny day.  Here’s one of G.

Format:  Squares are Holga 120n, and rectangles are Nikon F100.  All are Acros 100 developed and scanned at home.

Follow our circle and enjoy my friend Pam’s beautiful interpretations of this month’s theme.

Joyce - oh Kim! You have inspired me to dust off my Holga and play with it again. I haven’t used it in ages!! I love the Holga shots :)

Pam K - Kim, I truly love these!! I am pulling out my Holga and some Acros thanks to your inspiration!! It was a perfect film choice for these shots!! Beautiful!

sharon - Kim!!!!! I am LOVING that first shot!!! Simply spectacular!!! I love how you used your holga for this challenge!

Joanna - These are great! I just got a holga so now I need to actually use it. ;)

David Love - Whoah Kim!…the tire swing is gigantic…great session.

Jen - I’ve never tried Acros film or a Holga. This makes me want to!

Rachel Potter - These are so cool…that first one is perfection!

Justine K - Love the Holga shots!!! Cant wait to try this film type myself!
High fives for developing at home – love it!

Michael Foster - That first shot…OMG!! Not only is the image amazing, but you developed it and scanned it YOURSELF! How satisfying is that?

Jessica R - Kim – I LOVE that first shot!!! Just love it. Love the effect that the Holga gave it as well, it just fits perfectly. I love these signs that you find out and about on your adventures too :)

Elisa - These are marvelous Kim!

Jenny Owens - Kim, your holga shots are amazingly evocative. I can see those printed large and on the wall. I really like the tones on the one of your son also.

Brandy - OMGosh…that first shot. WOW! Amazing capture! They are all fabulous, but that first one literally made me gasp! Fantastic work!

Adele Humphries - That first shot is amazing Kim!! I just adore it!!

Vavoom, vacuum!

I recently finished up a fantastic film class and one of the assignments was to take a portrait of a… wait for it… a vacuum cleaner.  Preferably 1980s or older.  The vacuum repair guy wouldn’t let me keep his 1953 model out for too long, and thankfully a friend came to the rescue and lent me her girl.

Format: F100 + Kodak Ektar.  Developed and scanned by Indie.

Michael Foster - The Ektar was perfect for these!! Love the colors. Great job!!

jessica r - Yay! I’ve been waiting to see some of these ever since you mentioned this fun project. I am just so jealous of these amazing buildings you always find. The textures and colors are fabulous!

Adele Humphries - Kim!!!! I can’t believe i missed these shots! I love what you did for this project! The tones and colours are wonderful and create the sense of times gone by.

I want to Get Back to telling stories of families.

I am a huge fan of Yan’s art with families – such authentic connections and emotions.  So when she and Abbie McFarland announced a contest to attend her Get Back workshop?  I swallowed my fears and plunged right in with a video submission.  It’s true to who I am, and besides, you don’t want to miss hearing me say Yan with my accent;).

Jessica - Kim! I love your video! Still giggling about Walt’s tooth (though the expense surely isn’t funny and is chipping away at that hobby budget!) Good luck, I think this workshop is such a good fit for you :)

Meg Petty - Kim,

Awesome!! I hope you win it! I was laughing because you were so calm and focused while SL was getting into something in the laundry room. Sorry about Walt’s tooth! That stinks. Miss you. Hope you are coming home soon.

Love,
Meg

The One: January

A special group of friends and I will be posting an image each month with the theme of “One”.  Maybe it’s one image that signifies the month, or one that we would have otherwise overlooked.  I chose this image for my One in January because it IS us. This is One I will cherish.  To see my friend Jessica’s One from January, follow me there:  http://www.jessicaremus.com/2013/01/onejanuary/
